I have my own theory about numbers 1.000 and 1.001 too. The eldest known version (unfortunately lost)was titled Thousand Legends and it was only a collection without a frame of Sharazad telling the stories.

So after her story of a storyteller fighting for her life was added, the One Thousand and One Tales was more appropriate.

Another possibility for renaming was the way of her telling. She never finished a story without starting another one, so first night she finished first and started second and so on until the thousands night when she finished a story and presented her kids to her husband.

We all know there were really never one thousand or one thousand and one stories in the collection where just about anything can enter.

Aladdin from China does not fit in, but we can't do without it too because many stories originated in India and China and came to Syria and Egypt with merchants.

I like your mentioning the powerful role of women in East we too often forget. This role is important in many stories, I personally prefer the less known Secret of the Ninth Statue.

All the best with your blog. You are doing good thing:)Doktorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01910734943320579335noreply@blogger.com
