Fairytale Cottages

Tony was browsing through Airbnb the other night and a list of fairytale cottages sparked my interest. Unfortunately (for me) most of them are in California.

The Fairy-tale Gingerbread House was the most directly related to fairy tales:

There is also a castles listing:
Les Duves in Belgium

And a fairy tale studio in LA

I also found this list of  Fairytale Abodes: 15 Tiny Storybook Cottages.
The site says: "Humble and beautiful in their imperfection, little cottages with hand-made details call to mind the tales of the Brothers Grimm and other fairy stories, making us long for an adorable abode to call our own.     I remember one of the big attractions on Martha's Vineyard when I visited there were the "gingerbread cottages" that dotted the island. Really, they're just little houses, but people called them that.

      Yeah...I could have gone into how it's ironic/sad that people associate anything that's diminuitive, cute, or quaint with fairy tales, but I decided not to. I do like a lot of the houses pictured and would love to visit them. Frankly when many people say "fairy tale" they really mean "historic" in the general European sense and fairy tales are their most obvious connection

      Never mind that the gingerbread house in "Hansel and Gretel" was kind of bait and death-trap all in one.

      Haha, it's so true. How weird that we're all familiar with that part of the story and yet it still makes such an appealing advertising scheme...

    Picture number nine is in Holland in "De Efteling", a fairytale theme park. It's the witches house of Hansel and Gretel. See www.efteling.com.
    It exists for over 60 years now though it has changed over the years and became a lot bigger than when I went there as a child.
